COP26: Edinburgh - Glasgow 3D Telepresence demo

Holographic Telepresence

Seen the latest? William Shatner (aka Captain Kirk) making it into space at 90 years young! In case you didn't know, the Star Trek series predicted many technological advances: Mobile Phones, Tablet Computers, Touch Screens, Wireless Headsets, Voice Activation and Universal Translators.

And another they gave a glimpse of in Stardate 47215.5 was Telepresence.

Fast forward to the present - we (Holoxica, in conjunction with the Communication, Sensing and Imaging group at the James Watt School of Engineering, University of Glasgow and the University of Edinburgh) can bring you the next glimpses of what Telepresence actually looks like.

After nearly 2 years of 2D videoconferencing during lockdown, during which we developed and tested our solution, come and see the future for yourself: where the future has become the present, literally, with 3D real-time videoconferencing including light field displays.

Here you really can meet in 3D with more natural interactions than 2D, but without the environmental impact of transporting people along: saving resources and reducing environmental impact.

You can see this demo at COP26 at the Glasgow Centre for Sustainable Solutions from the University of Glasgow which will host a Telepresence inspired 3D chat with its visitors together with Edinburgh Engineering students & researchers at the Kings Buildings Campus at the University of Edinburgh & the Holoxica team.

The experience will include 2-way 3D Videoconferencing using Microsoft Azure Kinect 3D depth cameras, a fast low latency 5G network from the University of Glasgow supported by the Scotland 5G Centre, and the 3D Videoconferencing System (Telepresence) with 3D Looking Glass displays developed at Holoxica hosted on the University of Edinburgh Science & Engineering Campus, the Kings Buildings.

Register here to visit the stand at Glasgow University's beautiful and historic Hunter Halls.

Or if you are a Kings Buildings Campus student, researcher, just bring your University of Edinburgh badge along to the new Holoxica Holo Innovation Center situated on the ground floor of Murchison House for this event.

Why not make your first holographic high five to a friendly face in Glasgow from Edinburgh or from Glasgow to a friendly face in Edinburgh, and discuss with us how you could see this making a positive impact on both your videoconferences and the planet.

When?

November 9, between 10 am & 4 pm (Stardate 75322.9 - 75323.6).

And boldly try what not too many have tried before.
